The WordPress 3.0 code name “Thelonious”, was released early today. The latest upgrade is available through your WP dashboard or you can simply download the latest WordPress version at wordpress.org.
The volunteers from the WordPress developer community did an awesome job of more than 2 thousand changes, including 1,217 bug fixes. And along with the said upgrade, WP also include the gorgeous Twenty Ten, a search-engine friendly theme. =)

WordPress recommend that all sites must upgrade to WP 2.8.5 version, to ensure the best security protection of your site.
Below are the highlights of the said 2.8.5 update.
* A fix for the Trackback Denial-of-Service attack that is currently being seen.
* Removal of areas within the code where php code in variables was evaluated.
* Switched the file upload functionality to be whitelisted for all users including Admins.
* Retiring of the two importers of Tag data from old plugins.
Meanwhile, the WordPress camp are also working on the new features for the coming of WordPress 2.9.
